Overview
Veterans returning from combat may suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder or may have difficulty reintegrating into society. Due to alienation and lack of support, some veterans fall into drug and alcohol abuse or develop mental health issues. Veterans Courts have been established to address these issues.
Across the United States, successful completion of Veterans Court has helped decrease the recidivism rates of its participants through the proper diagnosis and treatment of mental health issues and as a result of the supportive roles mentors play in the process.
To refer a case to Veterans Court, please follow the guidelines set forth for each county, as the programs’ eligibility requirements and procedures may differ considerably.
