Position description

The Jury Services Coordinator is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the department to ensure the jury selection process is completed efficiently. This position is responsible for managing the summonsing, scheduling, and empaneling of prospective jurors. A person in this position must be able to effectively use the jury management system to maintain and update files and to gather information and statistics to generate various reports. Working knowledge of jury statutes and protocols is essential. The coordinator should have extensive conflict resolution skills to address issues with jurors. He or she should supervise, assist, and mentor staff in performing their duties as well as work effectively with the Director of Court Programs.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, be able to work closely with others, be detail-oriented and have a proven ability to adhere to strict confidentiality in the workplace. The role requires excellent computer skills and an ability to quickly acquire and work proficiently with a variety of computer software. Must have superior organizational skills and the ability to interact professionally and effectively with others, to include; jurors, coworkers, government officials, law enforcement personnel, and other court stakeholder agency staff. Must be able to organize and coordinate schedules with various individuals and/or groups. This position requires the ability to handle emotionally upset and demanding individuals with courtesy and patience. The ability to use word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications such as Word, Outlook, Excel, etc. is necessary. In-depth knowledge of JMS software is essential. The incumbent may need to access a variety of sites on the Internet.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Public Administration, Political Science, Human Resources, Business Management, or a closely related field plus two years of progressively responsible secretarial experience are required. Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred. Experience in jury or legal clerical field may substitute for years of undergraduate study on a year-to-year basis.
