Position description
This position involves responsible administrative and secretarial duties in support of the daily operations of the General Magistrate’s Office. The role is assigned to provide dedicated support to two General Magistrates serving in the Domestic Division. The position is located at the Orange County Courthouse, 425 N. Orange Avenue, Orlando, Florida 32801.
Primary responsibilities include preparing form notices, reports and court orders; drafting legal correspondence for signature; maintaining the docket calendar for the General Magistrates; preparing and entering legal documents and forms from rough drafts; entering case disposition information; managing appointments; screening and directing telephone calls; and communicating with attorneys, litigants, and other stakeholders regarding case-related matters.
The selected candidate will operate under the direction of the General Magistrates and must demonstrate a high level of judgment, tact, and diplomacy. The candidate must be capable of working independently while remaining within supervisory guidelines; be self‑motivated; and work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners. Strict confidentiality is required. Candidates must possess excellent computer skills and be able to rapidly acquire proficiency in various software programs, including the clerk’s case management system. Proficiency in business English, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation, is essential. Superior organizational skills and the ability to interact professionally with judges, coworkers, government officials, law enforcement personnel, clerk’s office staff, and members of the public are also required.
A bachelor’s degree is preferred. Additional relevant experience may substitute for the recommended educational level on a year‑for‑year basis. Salary: $3,555.08 monthly. This is a state‑funded position with a comprehensive benefits package.
