Position description
This position involves responsible administrative, organizational, and clerical work supporting the daily operations of the General Magistrate’s Office at the Orange County Courthouse, 425 N. Orange Avenue, Orlando, FL 32801. The employee serves as the first point of contact for litigants and is expected to provide professional and courteous customer service. Duties include advising Magistrates when parties arrive for scheduled hearings, informing Court Deputies when parties are ready to be escorted to hearing rooms, maintaining the internal database, and preparing monthly statistics on referrals and hearings. The role also requires distributing referrals from queues to assigned Magistrates, preparing form orders as directed, processing Magistrate Recommended Orders, assisting magistrate assistants as needed, and performing other administrative tasks as assigned.
The employee works under the direction of the Administrative Magistrate and must exercise a high degree of judgment, tact, and diplomacy. The position requires the ability to work independently while also functioning effectively within a team environment. Confidentiality must be maintained at all times. The ideal candidate is self‑motivated, detail‑oriented, and possesses excellent computer skills, including the ability to quickly learn and use a variety of software programs such as the clerk’s case management system. Strong command of business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation is required, along with superior organizational skills. The employee must be able to interact professionally with judges, coworkers, government officials, law enforcement, clerk’s office personnel, and the public.
A bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in business administration, office administration, or a related field are required. Additional relevant education may substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis, excluding supervisory experience. The annual salary for this Orange County‑funded position is $41,262.62, and the role includes a comprehensive benefits package.
