The Honorable Lisa T. Munyon, the first woman to serve as chief judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court, has been reelected unopposed for another two-year term by her colleagues.

Chief Judge Munyon has served as chief since 2021, dedicating her time to increasing the courts’ efficiency for judges, lawyers, and the public. A key accomplishment during her tenure will soon come to fruition – the building of a new Orange County Courthouse in Winter Park, which opens later this month. She worked closely with Orange County Government, Orange County Clerk of Courts, and Ninth Circuit partners to improve how the court serves the community by improving functionality and accessibility at this new location.

Appointed to the circuit bench in 2003 by Governor Jeb Bush, Chief Judge Munyon was reelected in 2004 and each subsequent term without opposition. Prior to her appointment, she served as an assistant state attorney with the Orange-Osceola State Attorney’s Office and in private practice.

Chief Judge Munyon has served on many local and statewide organizations throughout her judicial career. She sits on the Florida Court Technology Commission and served as its chair from 2012-2024. She joined the Trial Court Budget Commission in 2022, serving on both the executive and funding methodology committees. Chief Judge Munyon also currently serves as the Chair-Elect of the Florida Conference of Circuit Court Judges.

For her contributions to the community, Chief Judge Munyon has received numerous awards including the Chief Justice Award for Judicial Excellence in 2021 from the Florida Supreme Court, given to a jurist for their exceptional commitment to the judicial branch and personification of judicial excellence.

Chief Judge Munyon is the 17th chief judge of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court, and this two-year term begins on July 1, 2025. As chief judge, she will continue to oversee the administrative functioning of the courts.
