Position description
The Ninth Judicial Circuit seeks a Jury Services Assistant to support all aspects of jury management in Orange County from juror processing to report generation. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate who is eager to support the success of the jury services department.
This position helps support all functions required to effectively complete the jury selection process, including juror intake, empaneling, and dismissal. Duties include greeting jurors, administering the sworn oath, and conducting juror orientation. Performs administrative and clerical functions to provide jurors for courtrooms, including generating all necessary reports. Answers and files correspondence and emails. Responds to walk-in and telephone inquiries accurately and politely. Processes juror excuses, sorting mail according to exemption statutes and coordinating exemption actions with the judge reviewing exemption requests. Communicate with jurors by mail, telephone, or email when an exemption request is denied by the judge. Accurately enters relevant juror data into the Jury Management System (JMS), enabling jury panels to be sent to courtrooms for final panel selection. Processes juror payroll and coordinates with the Clerk’s Office to ensure jurors obtain appropriate compensation as necessary.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail oriented, discreet, and work well collaboratively. This role requires excellent computer skills and the ability to become quickly proficient in a variety of software. Must have superior organizational and communication skills and ability to develop close working relationships with judges, coworkers, and court partner staff. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite is essential. The incumbent may need to access a variety of sites on the internet to complete job duties.
High school diploma or equivalent plus two years of progressively responsible secretarial experience is required. Bilingual candidate is preferred. Experience in jury or legal/clerical is ideal.
