Position description
The Ninth Judicial Circuit Court has an immediate opening for a Magistrate to be assigned to Orange County. This is a professional, quasi-judicial position that carries a high degree of responsibility. The Magistrate will conduct hearings, make findings of fact, arrive at conclusions of law, and prepare recommended orders to the Domestic Circuit Judges or reports and recommendations to the Juvenile, and Probate Circuit Judges, as well as proposed orders on recommendation.
The position requires knowledge of legal principles, statutory and case law, court rules and procedures, as well as the ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and concisely, both verbally and in writing. The position requires the successful candidate to conduct hearings in a fair and impartial manner while keeping the proceedings orderly and within set time limits. The successful applicant must have the ability to work with litigants who are in stressful situations. The Magistrate will hear matters referred by the Ninth Circuit Judges in one or more of the following divisions: Domestic, Juvenile (Dependency), and Probate (Mental Health/Baker Act). Salary: $92,852.00 annually. State funded with benefits.
Qualified applicants must be a member in good standing in The Florida Bar for at least five years immediately preceding employment and have at least one year of practice in family law. The applicant must be proficient in Word and Westlaw or Lexis and must be able to personally prepare his/her own documents. The position has access to very limited administrative assistant services. The applicant must have excellent computer skills, including the ability to conduct hearings virtually.
