Position description

The Sanctioned to Read Coordinator position provides individualized reading instruction to youth referred by the Juvenile Court and court administered programs. Duties include scheduling, conducting and interpreting diagnostic and progressive assessments; testing on each client and recording results; composing an individualized prescription for reading success for each student; conducting parent/student conferences; preparing periodic statistical reports for the court and documenting program success and attending court hearings; conferring with court and school professionals while maintaining appropriate confidentiality; ensuring teaching materials are current and monitoring inventory; seeking and introducing best practices for the education of youth in the juvenile justice system; collaborating with other program coordinators; performing a variety of other administrative and clerical duties. Position may require flexible work schedule including evenings.
Strong interpersonal skills needed in working with youth involved in the juvenile justice system, their parents, teachers, etc. Ability to organize work, keep accurate records, monitor compliance, and work professionally with others as well as independently. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Candidate must be proficient in use of Microsoft and database applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. A Bachelor’s degree in education or related field is preferred. Two years’ experience teaching children and experience with a phonetic-based reading program is preferred. This position will be located at the Juvenile Justice Center, 2000 East Michigan Street, Orlando, Florida. Orange County funded position with benefits.
